434 Jefferson, initially constructed in 1853 and then expanded in 1902, is a 19th-century commercial building with distinctive Italianate features. While a devastating fire and subsequent 1970s renovation destroyed the property, a seamless reintegration of historical elements complement newly designed contemporary studios. Recreated millwork evokes the late Victorian era, dual bathrooms highlight turn of the century tiles and fixtures, replaceable flooring supports long-term sustainability, and modern mechanical and communication systems operate hidden within the original structure. Where possible, lost or obscured original exterior details were restored to achieve a historical modernization suitable for today’s commercial culture.
